How Do I Get My Business to Show Up on Google in Phoenix?

· Eric HansenLocal SEO
Good Marketing Starts With Trust

When someone searches Google for a plumber, landscaper, restaurant, cleaning company, marketing agency, or almost any other local business, they usually aren’t going to scroll through page after page of results.

They’re going to look at the businesses Google puts in front of them first.

So how do you get your business to show up when potential customers in Phoenix and the West Valley are searching for what you do?

The good news is that you don’t necessarily need a huge advertising budget to start improving your visibility.

You do, however, need to give Google the right information and consistently show that your business is active, legitimate, and relevant to local customers.

1. Start With Your Google Business Profile

If you own a local business, your Google Business Profile is one of the most important pieces of your online presence.

It can display information such as:

Your business name

Phone number

Website

Hours

Services

Photos

Reviews

Service areas

Updates and posts

Most importantly, it gives your business an opportunity to appear in Google Maps and local search results.

Make sure your profile is as complete and accurate as possible.

Don’t create it and forget about it.

Add photos. Update your hours when necessary. List the services you actually provide. Make sure your website and phone number are correct.

Think of your Google Business Profile as another front door to your business.

2. Make It Clear Where You Do Business

Google needs to understand not only what you do, but also where you do it.

If you serve Phoenix, say so where it makes sense.

If you serve communities such as Surprise, El Mirage, Peoria, Glendale, Goodyear, or Avondale, make that clear too.

There’s an important distinction here:

Be relevant. Don’t just stuff city names everywhere.

Your website should sound like it was written for human beings, not a search engine.

For example, this sounds natural:

We help small businesses throughout Phoenix and the West Valley build a stronger online presence.

Repeating “Phoenix marketing company” twenty times on one page doesn’t make the page better. It can make it difficult to read and look unnatural.

3. Ask Your Customers for Reviews

Reviews can be incredibly valuable for a local business.

They provide potential customers with something your own advertising can’t provide:

Someone else’s opinion of your business.

When you finish a job and the customer is happy, ask for a review.

Don’t make it complicated. Give them a direct link if possible.

And don’t panic if you only have one or two reviews right now.

Every business with 100 reviews once had zero.

Start with the customers you have and build from there.

Also, respond to your reviews. Thank people for taking the time to leave them. If you receive a negative review, respond professionally rather than emotionally.

Remember that your response isn’t only being read by the person who left the review. Future customers may read it too.

4. Your Website Still Matters

Some business owners think having a Google Business Profile means they don’t really need a website.

I disagree.

Your Google profile may introduce someone to your business, but your website gives you room to explain why they should choose you.

A good small-business website doesn’t have to be enormous or cost thousands of dollars.

It should answer a few basic questions quickly:

Who are you?

What do you do?

Where do you do it?

Why should someone trust you?

How can they contact you?

That’s the foundation.

From there, you can build pages around individual services, answer common customer questions, publish useful articles, show previous work, and give visitors more reasons to contact you.

5. Create Content That Answers Real Questions

This is one of my favorite strategies because you don’t have to guess what people care about.

Listen to your customers.

What questions do they ask you all the time?

Those questions can become blog posts.

A roofing company might write:

“How Long Does a Roof Last in Arizona?”

An HVAC company might write:

“Why Is My AC Running but Not Cooling My House?”

A landscaper might write:

“What Plants Survive the Phoenix Summer?”

And a marketing company might write:

“How Do I Get My Business to Show Up on Google in Phoenix?”

See what I did there?

The goal isn’t to write something just because you heard that businesses are supposed to have a blog.

The goal is to create useful information that answers the same questions your potential customers are already asking.

6. Keep Your Business Information Consistent

Your business information appears in more places online than you might realize.

Google, Yelp, Facebook, directories, social media profiles, your website, and other platforms may all contain information about your company.

Try to keep your important information consistent.

That includes your:

Business name

Phone number

Website

Address or service area

Business hours

If one website has an old phone number and another has an old address, you’re creating unnecessary confusion for both customers and search engines.

7. Stay Active

One of the biggest mistakes small-business owners make with marketing is doing something once and expecting an immediate result.

They create a website.

Nothing happens.

They make two Facebook posts.

Nothing happens.

They create a Google Business Profile.

Nothing happens.

Then they decide online marketing doesn’t work.

Building an online presence usually takes consistency.

Keep adding useful content. Keep improving your website. Keep asking satisfied customers for reviews. Keep your business information current.

You don’t need to do everything every day.

You just need to keep moving forward.

How Long Does It Take to Rank on Google?

There isn’t one honest answer that applies to every business.

It depends on factors such as your industry, location, competition, website, reviews, existing online presence, and what people are searching for.

A business competing for a highly competitive search across the entire Phoenix metro area may face a very different challenge than a business targeting a smaller West Valley community.

That’s why I’d be cautious of anyone promising you a specific Google ranking by a specific date.

SEO is not a light switch.

It’s something you build.

You Can Do a Lot of This Yourself.

Here’s something you may not expect a marketing company to tell you:

You can absolutely do a lot of this yourself.

You can update your Google Business Profile.

You can ask customers for reviews.

You can post on social media.

You can write helpful articles.

You can make sure your business information is accurate.

You can learn basic SEO.

The question isn’t always whether you can do your own marketing.

Sometimes the question is whether you have the time to do it consistently while also running your business.

That’s where getting some help can make sense.
