This week I want to talk about procrastination. I've been putting this topic off, and I think it's time to finally address it.
(I sure hope everyone got that).
This is a topic I really could post about every week, and really get something out of it every time.
I've heard that as humans procrastination is hard wired into us. It's an instinct so to speak, and it all started back when our only source of food was to go hunt for it. I can't imagine what that was like. What was a midnight snack like? Was there even such a thing?
Anyways back when we used to have to hunt for food, we were also the hunted. We could have actually been some creatures midnight snack. I mean how awful. You go out to get food for your family, and if you weren't at your best, you could any given day literally get eaten. Think about that for a second, (and then if you really thought about it) you now always have an answer when someone says... What are you grateful for?
So anyways to get back to where I was going with this. Because we could also get eaten, we would put it off as long as we could.
I'm sure there wasn't deer meat, oxen, buffalo, chicken, or buffalo chicken on the menu, it was deer for a week, or a month, or whatever you could kill, that lasted only so long before you had to hunt again.
Things in this day and age can really pile up quick if I don't do all that I can in a day. I still think there has to be a balance between what needs to get done, and what we think needs to be done. Going at procrastination too hard, can cause stress on my health, relationships, and well my whole work/play ecosystem.
My fiancee used to say... Come on, all you do is work, or you're always on your phone. We'd be married by now if you gave "us" as much attention as you do "it". Well I learned this the hard way, and now I'm single again. I needed to find my balance. I have never been lazy, and I don't like to put things off. I should have left that where it was. I felt like with starting this business, I had to do it all in a day, and I've now paid a heavy price for not listening to the universe. Some stuff can be put off, and maybe should be. So I have to take that from this whole experience of running a business, and keeping our relationships in check. If I don't learn that the other end of procrastination, can be as harmful as procrastination. WOW, as I was writing that, I just figured that out. What a cool moment this is.
Anyways, what I got from what I wrote today is if I put things off, things will pile up yes, and damage the work/play ecosystem, but if I try to "get it all done in a day" that can and has been just as damaging. I really need to find that balance, and I know that now that I'm aware of it, I will.
I'm Gonna Go Make My Day GREAT Now!
